Note: Collect all the economic data from each of the Kingdom modules, add other available economic titles and tit-bits. Need to create a proper economic model.

Economic Data

Major settlements listed below produce a Surplus (+), Demand (–), or are Self-sufficient (●) in the listed commodities. Larger settlements like Dyrisa have greater demand. Aleath demands all commodities. Timber is scarce in the heath areas. Kanday exports vellum, linen, and wool.

The information is derived from natural resources, land quality, and the geopolitical situation. For example, sheep-rearing areas produce a surplus of wool and related products. Listed under the nearest settlement, metals are owned by the crown and extracted by the Miners’ Guild under license. Quarries and salt mines are held from the local lord. Gamemasters can use this economic data to generate realistic mercantile activity.

Note: Need to find an example of each Mine Type, create a list of, and separate the various resources, to paint an expanded economic picture of Kandáy. Add in the Geology of Hârn data.

Markets and Fairs

The bulk of Kanday’s rural business transactions occur on market days and at fairs in settlements across the kingdom. Market days are held in most keeps four times monthly on each Peonian Lesser Sapelah, and daily in the castletowns. Traditionally, business between guildsmen is conducted in the morning while the produce and livestock from surrounding manors clogs the roads and gates leading into the settlement. By afternoon, the guildsmen are finished with their transactions and are free to examine the goods available at the market and to hire labor to move the goods they have purchased.

Fairs are much larger market days, held seasonally in the castles and abbeys that have been licensed to hold them. Kandian fairs are usually centered upon a single guild or commodity, such as wool, parchment, linen, wine/cider, or grain. In addition to their commercial significance, fairs are centers of religion and local folk culture. Much more food, drink, and entertainment are seen than on a typical market day, and religious events always feature prominently. Some fairs include tournaments of chivalry, but these are rare and tightly controlled by the Laranian Church.
