Sumon is the gateway to southeastern Daenshire, the starting point for trappers, missionaries, and merchants intent upon trading with the Gozyda. The great watchtowers at Idister and Aletyne are topped with enormous pyramids of firewood and oil to be lit in the event of attack by the Gozyda or disaster from the sea. The loneliness of these isolated vigils is in sharp contrast to the thriving commercial hive of Sumon and its surrounding manors.
Sumon Keep was founded in 383 on the site of an ancient tribal fortification. Sumon was an independent ally of the second Republic of Aleath until annexed by Kanday in 632. The barony was created in 658.
The present baron, Antyn Udanel, 52, is an illtempered and sarcastic man. He has walked with a severe limp since a riding accident 26 years ago. Sir Antyn’s brother Waltyn is an instructor at Maryael, a renowned Save-K’norian monastery and center of learning. The baron fancies himself a scholar but uses more bluster than fact in conversation.
